The most common style fitted today. A small case rests behind the ear, and a thin wire carries sound to a tiny speaker that sits in the ear canal. RIC hearing aids are light and hard to notice, and many Widex and Signia RIC models are rechargeable and stream calls and music over Bluetooth. They work for mild to severe hearing loss and suit people who are on the go.
Mini Behind-the-Ear (Mini BTE)

Receiver-in-canal (RIC) and mini BTE devices are also hard to spot, since only a thin wire or tube shows and the case hides behind the ear.
Small size has trade-offs. CIC devices use tiny batteries that need changing often, have less room for features, and aren't strong enough for more severe hearing loss. Not every ear canal is large enough for one, either. If discretion is your priority, tell Dr. Fuchs at your visit and she'll show you which of these work for your ears and your hearing test.
Not every style. Rechargeable batteries are common in RIC, mini BTE, and BTE hearing aids from Widex and Signia, and some custom ITE models offer them as well. The smallest custom styles, like CIC, usually still run on disposable batteries because there isn't room for a rechargeable cell.
Rechargeable devices go in a charger overnight and last through a full day, which many people find easier than handling tiny batteries. If you have arthritis, numb fingertips, or trouble seeing small parts, that convenience can decide the style for you. Most RIC, mini BTE, and BTE hearing aids from Widex and Signia stream phone calls, music, and TV audio over Bluetooth. Many custom ITE and ITC models do too. The smallest CIC devices may have limited streaming or none at all, because there's less space inside for the antenna and battery.
Streaming also uses more power, so people who spend hours on the phone or listening to audiobooks often do best with a rechargeable model.
